fantastic visual work

I have been reading the blog 'All manner of distractions' for several weeks now. And have been amazed watching someone use processing to create visuals... but today he threw it over the top for me. In his post http://www.flight404.com/blog/?p=49 he shows how he is using his new jazz mutant lemur to control some of these processing visuals.

Check out this other work he did with processing... it is also enthralling.

Man, I would like to know how to work with processing.
I would like to be able to create that kind of artwork. It is beautiful and inspiring.
I always tend to get trapped in the details of programming languages, so I haven't yet started trying to get my head around it - but, wow, what an inspiration. Given that he's been working on this type of animation for 4 years gives me hope. At least he didn't just start learning this last week!

I bet we'll be seeing some commercials using these type of effects soon.

Of course, it will take a design company learning processing to do it.. I don't think you can get this type of animation right out of After Effects or the Inferno. (I could be wrong.. maybe it's just _me_ who doesn't know how to do that!) :)

don't change that 'no' to a 'yes' at the end... you'll bring your browser to it's knees! :)

new year - new ideas

I'm a little slow on the whole 'new years resolution' thing... but I might as well write it here as anywhere!

I've done voice over work before and have been on the air a few times - and I've decided it's time for me to be a bit more pro-active about getting work! I'm working on putting together my reel. The latest one is here : http://www.evilblender.com/jhvoicereel.mp3

I guess I'll just update that file as I change it. Perhaps I should put together a web site just for the file, but for right now, I'm just going to send some emails to folks and have the file available at that link.

I'm not sure exactly what's involved in getting an agent for voice over work... I don't even really know who to talk to.
I _do_ know that I'd like to do more 'fun' voices... cartoons rather than just straight-ahead reading. On the other hand, the straight-ahead stuff has paid quite well.

Well, not much of a resolution. But it's a step in the right direction. :)

some tech notes

http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2003/04/15/bind.html

A good primer article on setting up Bind on a LAN. I'm thinking of setting up linux box here in the office to handle this kind of stuff so I can refer to the printers as color.cnycomapny.com rather than 192.168.1.20 etc.

Free DNS hosting service:

One other website to watch out for is
http://www.priceprotectr.com/

watches prices for you after you've bought something.

Just reminding myself
