get me one right now

I can't wait to use a virtual keyboard.
Sign me up now!

Thanks engadget!

iTech’s got the latest (Bluetooth) virtual keyboard - Engadget - www.engadget.com

We still remain vigilantly skeptical of the whole virtual keyboard thing (we know one day it will be a reality, keepin’ hope alive!)

swarm my pretties!

I have always liked robots. I mean, who doesn't? I've also wondered how people figure out things like traffic flow, and other really complex systems that exist only out of numerous individual decisions.
Stock market predictions - even predicting the outcome of rock, paper, scissors.
Not too long ago, I was thinking about small transmitter/receivers that people would carry around with them, that would communicate with other people's... and when enough got into one area, one would somehow start a wave of similar reactions, almost like feedback slowly spreading out from one point.
How do you decide that point though?
Who gets to take the lead?

I've never followed through with my curiosity - not yet anyways - lacking both skill, knowledge, and money has it's drawbacks! But fortunately, there are others with lots of all of those.

The folks that make the roomba have made a swarm of robots that communicate with each other about position and information. Ant like.

Cool.

text wrangler - FREE!

I won't lie to you... I've missed BBEdit Lite. It happened suddenly - just a:

Thank you for your interest in BBEdit Lite. BBEdit Lite has been discontinued and is no longer being developed or supported. Anyone currently using the software is welcome to continue doing so, in accordance with the existing license agreement.

Yikes I had no idea I couldn't download it anymore! Of all the times to have a harddrive go bad, and I didn't have my favorite text editor to replace... I was was torn.
I won't name names, but I was given a copy of the full version from a friend - I just could not justify the $300 price tag. (I know - that's no excuse.) So I tried to not use the full version as much as I could - I felt guilty even having it on my harddrive!
I've been looking for a suitable text editor replacement ever since. I checked out SubEthaEdit, which was quite cool - but I didn't need a way for others to share text with me. So I checked into Jedit - which I kind of liked, except for the Java slowness. My machine is just too slow with Java apps. Which was disappointing cause this was a very close replacement for BBEdit Lite.
So I would reluctantly fire up the full version of BBedit, and feel guilty every time I used it.

Now I can toss it away! BareBones has made TextWrangler free!

This makes me very happy.

I haven't even tried it out yet - but it looks exactly like BBEdit Lite used to! Yay!

Well, the download is done - and it's off to the races - let's put TextWrangler through it's paces.

physical computing

I would really like to have seen this myself.
we make money not art: Communicating with a goldenfish

Among its favourites is Fish-byte.net,
an installation, by Jason Babcock and Michael Kertesz, that uses
computer vision technology to open a communication channel between the
visitor and a live goldfish, capturing the behavior of one species and
translating it to another.

I've heard of this class at NYU - I briefly thought about taking it myself, just because of the cool stuff it outputs. But the money to go to NYU... can't do that anytime soon! :)

I wouldn't mind communicating with a fish for that matter either!
