IM IM IM

OK -- Instant Messaging over wifi. Doesn't sound too exciting does it? Now do it without the computer and it's keyboard. Mmmmmm.... sounding better? How about Zip It?
Funny name - neat idea.
_I_ couldn't stand the idea of owning one - but that's cause I hate to communicate via IM - unlike the rest of the world and my friends - but just looking at this causes me to re-think my position.
I still want a Palm that's mostly keyboard like that - but I might just buy this as a preasant for someone I know who can't stop IMing.
Hard to know if I should feed the habit though :)

FREE Tracktion!

Great news for those of you, who like me, enjoy playing with music software... Tracktion by Mackie is now free!
All you have to do it go over to a registration page, fill out the info, and it's yours!
Personally, I found the registration quite awkward - you have to fill out info, like you'd expect - but they also want your machine ID --- which you can't get until you download the software and run it. So you fill out a '0' for the time being... well, they then email you an 'unlock code' for that 0 code - which , of course doesn't work.
So you have to go back, and fill out the machine ID after you run tracktion on your machine at least one time.
Then they'll email you another unlock file. It should work.
But boy I was confused, cause the first unlock code didn't show up in my mailbox until after I had filled out the machine ID. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't unlock!
I mean, I get why people have to make software non-piratable... but when it gets in the way of using the software - I just think that's too far.
I don't mean tracktion is doing this - their's is just confusing.
I don't feel like complaining about it though right now - I'll do it another time :)
For now, your job is to get your butt on over to Mackie and grab your own version of tracktion!
Re-wire, midi, audio - it's all there for FREE!

rumors rumors rumors

I _need_ one of these.
Rumors always fly about Apple's stuff way before it ever exists - I don't know if this will ever exist or not, but boy I would like to get my hands on one of these. Not just for the audio ins and outs. I mean that's nice and all... I want the spin control and the faders.
Less than $129 sounds very attractive.
I still want some kind of sound card for my laptop that will give me 2 pairs of stereo outputs. I want to be able to preview in live on one set, and output the main mix on the other. I know about the echo card, but I really want something over USB or firewire. $500 is just too much.
But I don't want to get tied in to laptop only.
Hook me up Apple!

what you gonna do now?

Ah, refreshing....
stumble on over to submedia and have some fun. It's rather like a big old F-U to everyone. Punk out.

It's gotten me wondering how possible it _would_ be to run my car on vegetable diesel fuel. nah, I'm still waiting for hydrogen powered cars please.

are you sirius?

So Friday, I let Howard Stern buy me a Sirius radio.
I had to pay for the year of service, and the setup charge, and the shipping... but all in all, I think I got a good deal. I'd been trying to decide between the XM and Sirius for a few months. Then Howard's coupon made up my mind.
It also helped that I'd been tuning in to the 3 day trial over the internet at Sirius, but can't get the same trial at XM cause I have a mac. :(
Sorry XM. I had thought I was going with you - but turns out Sirus cost me less (even though their monthly charge is $12 vs. your $10).
I decided to get the home connection - if I decide it's worth it later on, I'll put it in my car - but I'll just let Best Buy do the install for me. I'm too old to be climbing upside down messing with my radio anymore. Besides, once I change one thing in the car, I notice from then on any little thing that's not 100% perfect. If someone else installs for me... I tend not to notice.
I'm looking forward to the dance stations, and some of the indie stations sounded fantastic! Who knows, maybe I'll even start listening to country! <--- lo dudo
I hope it gets here tomorrow.

frontline vs. walmart

Perhaps the 'leftovers' category ought to be re-named. Perhaps I just need a new category - something like PE#1 or fight the power - for now leftovers will suffice.
Was watching PBS the other night - how strange! I was missing out on the broadcast's Prime Time hour - how dare I?! Managed to see half of this show: frontline: is wal-mart good for america?: watch the full program online | PBS
It was surprising information. Follow the link - watch it online for yourself.

I remember Frontline doing another show about marketing and entertainment companies (all 4 of them(?)). Can't quite find the link to IT online though. Maybe someone can help me out there.

EDIT --> check out The Merchants of Cool" do it before you think you know anything about what's hip and dope in the world today. But since it's 2 years old - just insert a J-LO, Brittnay, (either) Simpson girl. The companies haven't changed _that_ much!

So over at engadget on the ipod cast they had some suggestions on how to 'fight the powers of walmart,' or beat them at their own game.
1-don't buy anything that's not at their 'low price'
2-use a credit card that offers some sort of percentage back
3-don't walk in the door of walmart

For me it's always been #3 --- previously to my dismay actually. There's not a walmart here for miles, or I guess if I was willing to drive an hour away I think there's one in Poughkeepsie. But I'm not willing to drive an hour for almost anything. Not with the price of gas as it is anyways.
I had always felt I was missing out on some really great secret as I'd see walmart's in WI, UT, or VI - they were GI-NORMOUS! You can get anything there... anything. So, when I was back at home, I longed for a Walmart near my house.
Well, now I'm glad there's NOT one near by.

Thank goodness businesses only have "the consumer's" best interest in mind!

CSS craziness

I wish I had a better handle on this stuff.

css Zen Garden: The Beauty in CSS Design

it's a site that lets you change the look of it by just changing a pulldown menu ... it's all driven by CSS. CSS is what's making the look of _this_ site! I wish I knew what to change so that mine can be as flexible.
I'll work on it.

You know I'll get there! :)

guess I'm getting the hang of it. the 'blog this' link... the easier the better. trying to run my own movable type blog setup was too time consuming. I got caught up in the html and css of it. I'd rather just post my photos and write stuff that I would imagine no one would want to read.

I'm hardly a visionary.

but I do like visuals
